Faringdon's OCA League Division 1 title hopes are dented by narrow defeat at Stonesfield (From Herald Series)
FARINGDON’S title hopes were dented when they lost by two wickets at Stonesfield in the only OCA League Division 1 game to survive the wet weather.
The visitors were restricted to 159-7 in a match reduced to 35 overs per side, Dan Sherbourne taking 3-35 and Sam Hibberd 3-36.
In reply, Stonesfield lost wickets to Alex Robinshaw, who took 5-34.
But 37 from Adrian Birkett, 35 from Shoaib Ahmed and 30 from Mike Phipps saw them over the line at 161-8.
In Division 2, Wootton & Boars Hill closed the gap on leaders Witney Swifts to just nine points with a 37-run victory.
Billy Webb followed up his century in last weekend’s representative match against the Cherwell League with 42 as Wootton set 161-7.
Swifts struggled in their reply to reach 124-7.
Wantage eased to a six-wicket win at Chadlington in a match reduced to 25 overs per side.
Chadlington set 125-6, before Ian Challand (39no) led Wantage to 126-4.
Uffington suffered a crushing 174-run defeat away to Division 4, leaders Brill.
Phil Chanel (69no), Dale Sweetman (63) and Jeremy Mansfield (53) helped Brill set 249-8.
Andy Wynd then took 6-12 as Uffington were shot out for 75.
Marcham went down by three wickets to Deddington in a 30 overs per side match.
Tom Beresford hit 50 in Marcham’s 131-9, but 51 from Maneesh Verma and 35 from Chris Blackburn helped Deddington over the line at 135-7.
In Division 5, Kennington lost by 38 runs at Ducklington, who made 194, Simon Palmer taking 5-38.
Jamie Zoldan then took 4-26 in Kennington’s reply as they were bowled out for 156, Graham Rowley hitting 69.
Radley won a low-scoring match at home to Steventon by 49 runs.
They had managed only 89 all out but Richard Cook was then the star with 6-16, including a first league hat-trick, as Steventon were skittled for 40.
Division 8 South leaders Chalgrove were too strong for visitors Sunningwell in a nine-wicket win.
Keith Coleman took 5-29 as Sunningwell were all out for 101, before James Little (42no) and Matthew Skilleter (35no) led Chalgrove to 102-1.
Five-wicket hauls for Ollie Clark (5-17) and Ashley Green (5-13) helped Uffington 2nd to a 125-run win over visitors Marcham 2nd.
Uffington set 163-9, Dominic French-Davis scoring 43 and Richard Wightman taking 4-33.
Marcham had no answer to Clark and Green as they were tumbled out for 38.
Sunningwell lost by four wickets to Hanborough in the semi-final of the Telegraph Cup
Chasing Sunningwell’s 145-6, Hanborough reached 148-6 as Aston Leach hit 34 and Joseph Burgess 33.
